“NOW, made with Genetically Modified Ingredients!”

October 16, 2012

Ever seen that on a food label? Of course you haven’t. The Big Food Corporations know we as humans intrinsically know better and would, if given a choice, avoid such foods. Demand that choice!

This is just a personal opinion, but I think God makes better seeds than GMO $cientists. Every day I drive past GMO soy and corn fields and it saddens me to the marrow of my bones. Most of these farmers feel they have no choice but to plant these altered crops.

Our food is sacred. Shouldn’t we honor the seed as a sacred gift from God?

When we stop buying GMOs, the market for them will fail and the farmers down the street will plant natural seeds.

Organics Matter if You’d Rather Not Be Sterile

January 21, 2012

Of course you can think of this as some really good news. If you don’t want children, just keep buying conventionally grown food.

This former pig farmer takes a few (12) minutes to describe how his pigs, and multiple other farmers who fed the same GMO corn to their pigs, had 80-100% sterile rate in their sows. Then he describes the aftermath and why he quit the biz.

Take a look at how many processed foods YOU buy that have high fructose corn syrup in them.  I’ll give you a hint, if you are not buying organic, just about all of them will.  And oh yeah, you probably should know that manufacturers know we as consumers are looking more closely at labels so they are seeking to have that ingredient name changed to the much friendlier and natural sounding term “corn sugar”.

Eating Organically. A Child’s Lesson.

January 10, 2012

Most people I know still buy conventional food. Why? Well you know why. Either they don’t know or care about organic food or they use the ever popular reason:  “Its cheaper.” Hmmm.

Well what price for your health? And possibly, the health of your future progeny?

Here is a youtube clip of an adorable young person who found out, in a brilliantly simple elementary school experiment, the real difference between a “conventional” sweet potato and an “organic” sweet potato. She ends this 2.5 minute video clip with the question: “Which potato would you rather eat?”

Indeed. Well done young lady, well done.

Canary in a Coalmine or Parakeet in your Kitchen?

January 5, 2012

In days of old, caged canaries would be carried by mining workers down into the tunnels with them. If dangerous gases such as methane or carbon monoxide leaked into the mine-shaft, the gases would kill the canary before killing the miners. Sad for the canaries, but an effective safety device for the miners.

Today you can use your own pet bird in a similar way. How? Well, if you use Teflon coated pans in your kitchen and they are heated to just the right temperature, they will emit poisonous gas. Its called “Teflon toxicosis” where the lungs of exposed birds hemorrhage and fill with fluid, leading to suffocation. Just bring Tweedy near enough to your stove so that he can breathe the same air that you do. If he keels over, you know you have heated up your pan too much.

DuPont on its website, acknowledges that these fumes can also sicken people, a condition called “polymer fume fever.” Please do know that they state that “normal” household heating of these pans will not pose any danger whatsoever to you or Tweedy. Just don’t put an empty pan on a burner on high to pre-heat it, for example.

Also one should also not ingest tiny bits of scraped off Teflon, as Teflon is a polymer made from fluoride which is a known hazardous chemical and poison.

Alas, there does not seem to be a corresponding warning idiom for actual consumption of Teflon particles that would serve as an early warning signal in the way that birds are useful for the gases.

If having a bird in the kitchen doesn’t work for you, and you don’t want to wonder about unseen ingested particles, you could just simply prepare your meals with cast iron or glass or stainless steel.

For more information on popular polymers, including how “stain resistant” carpets and clothing could possibly transfer these chemicals into your body, see this article at Tuberose.

Question: When is Corn, not “really” Corn?

November 17, 2011

Answer:  When its GMO corn laced with thiamethoxam (a systemic neonicotinoid INSECTICIDE), and azoxystrobin, carboxin, fludioxonil and mefenoxam, all four, fungicides.  Careful not to touch this sweet corn while planting. Never mind that you are supposed to eat it eventually, just don’t touch it while its in this state.

Seriously. These are corn kernels? Does this look like a corn kernel to you? I bet any rodent with only half a brain would take a pass on consuming this GMO abomination.

Actually there are even important questions to be asked here, than the title of this article. Namely, does this concept even matter to you? Do you even think about this at all? Are you awake or asleep?

When you are in your local market, do you pause, even for a moment to consider where your food comes from and how its produced? And if not, why not? Do you ever wonder at all, about the “end-game” of the giant mega corporations who created this and other seeds that poison the natural varieties, pollute the earth and sicken humans? Or do you just put the can of Green Giant into your shopping cart and get on with your day, completely bypassing the organic varieties because they are just “too expensive” and “are basically the same”? Do you think GMOs “don’t matter” or that science just has our best interest in mind?  Really?

Do you have “more important” things to worry about? Your job, the economy,  the “big game” maybe, or what new adventure the Kardashian Gals are having?

What is more important that our FOOD? There are those who are quite pleased you are so very distracted by those other things, while they quietly, methodically attempt to control the very food supply on our planet.

Support your local organic farmer, buy local crops in season, not shipped in and driven cross country from another continent. Buy organic whenever possible. Reject GMO food at all cost. Stop using “Weed and Feed” and “Roundup” in your own yard for goodness sake, it just perpetuates the problem and poisons the very water you drink! And consider saving heirloom vegetable seeds, they will be very valuable some day soon.

Or… just forget all about this “over reactive” little rant of mine and go watch some tv.
